Thanks for testing Footsteps - I'm sure there are bugs that only real-world use will find. The heritage content has been researched and checked, but not exhaustively — if something doesn't ring true, please tell me. Your input is extremely valuable.
Whilst there are great apps for directing walkers, none give you detailed information about the heritage you pass along the way.
Footsteps is for the curious walker who passes a large house, an old church, a strange earthwork, a crumbling wall and thinks — what's the story here?
As you approach a known point of interest, a short description — the 'Glance' — reads aloud. Tap for more information. Tap again for even more. How deep you go is up to you.
I used AI heavily to build this — it wrote most of the code and helped draft the heritage content, following strict guidelines. Where facts are uncertain, the text says so. I know AI has its detractors, but without it I could not have built Footsteps. However, AI, as we all know, is not infallible. Which is why I need your help.
Before you head out, tap the walking figure icon to browse walks and then download your chosen walk over Wi-Fi . Once downloaded it should work offline. Start a walk and put your phone in your pocket. It will 'fire' — or should — automatically when you get within a pre-set distance of a POI (Point of Interest).
Tap the envelope icon at any time. Bugs, wrong facts, paths that don't exist, missing POIs or content that jars or is written in a tone that annoys — and AI will annoy — all of it is useful. Nothing is too small. I'd rather know. Thanks again, and enjoy using the app.
